Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi engine failure - cheddar : I could say that my TDCi has done 106k etc etc though there is no point because all makes/models suffer occasional untypical issues. That being said I have heard of a TDCi bending a rod due to ECU / injector problems, perhaps this was a similar case.

I have the following problem with my Mondeo: ONLY and ONLY in 2nd gear when driving at constant speed the car accelerates by itself for 1 or 2 seconds every 3 or 4 seconds. So it is absolutely impossible to drive it with constant speed in the second gear. Not sure if writing in the right section, hopefully I am. Thought I will share my Mod with Mondeo owners. Seeing people with the same problem been looking Only a couple of weeks ago i bought my 1st ford its a 2004 53 mondeo tdci 2.0 130bhp its now covered 104k, i bought it only a coupl eof weeks ago i got it at a slightly cheaper price as it was running rough i though it just needed serviced, i did this before driving to france 3000 mile round trip. Ford have failed to provide a good diagnosis despite me giving them £200. I have a load of intermittent failures in the cabin - stereo, dash gauges, climate, windows, warning lights, you name it they intermittently fail usually every 20 minutes or so driving. Ford think it might be the body control module, but aren't really sure.
HI. Don't think running fuel low makes any difference on the injectors, they are a common fault and going on my experience and other post's you are looking at between 70 - 100k, although there was someone who posted as having 1 on 128k and already done 2 sets of injectors. - look out for grey / white smoke indicating poorly / un-burnt diesel.
If the fault lies elswhere (eg the VNT vanes) you could go through 100 actuators - its a bit like changing a fuse when you have a short (eg- changing the fuse does not solve the problem) - you must find the route cause of the problem .
